Question: How long is a Life Sentence?

Answer: A life sentence lasts for the rest of that person's natural life. This means that if the person is convicted and sentenced at 30 years old, he will remain in prison until he dies, which could be 50 or more years. If a person is convicted at age 60 and receives a life sentence, he will remain in prison until his death which could be only 10 or 20 years.

Hey, I would just like to respond to the comment about a life sentence means a prisoner would be in prison for life. I am currently doing a piece of A-level Sociology coursework and I have found this statement to be untrue. Looking at many cases of murders/rapes etc I have found that life sentences can be as little as 11/12/13 years. I think life should mean life personally, and wish your statement was true but unfortunately you seem to be wrong here. Thanks.

I don't understand the point of giving someone two life sentences, isn't it redundant? Even in the name of justice for each life?
