Question: If I am a minor and have entered into a contract to buy a car from an adult, is there anything I can do to get out of the contract?
Answer: Sometimes a person under the age of 18 can get out of a contract. If the person's parent or guardian co-signed the contract or if the person lied about his or her age, the person probably cannot get out of it. Sometimes there are time limits on getting out of a contract.

In order to remove yourself from a contract as a minor several things must happen. You must have signed the contract yourself, had no co-signer over 18 or legally responsible for you and not lied about anying factual information (like age). Technically, you could stop paying and still be able to get out of the contract. They would file suit and you would win the case in court, but be required to turn the car back over to the original owner. Do the honorable thing, tell them you don't really want to be in it and give them the car back. Too bad for your lost money. Also, if you kept paying...

I took a law class last year and this question arose. According to the law there are four types of ways to determine if a contract is valid or not. One of them is when a contract is considered void. A void contract exists when a person in the contract isn't of age to enter into a contract. In the United States that age happens to be 18. So, if you are a minor you do have a right to get out of the contract. That is why it is in a Seller's best interst to have a co-signer that is over the age of 18 when they sell a car to a minor.
