Question:

Why is marijuana illegal?

Answer:

Something is illegal when laws are passed prohibiting it. Marijuana is against the law because there are specific laws which make it illegal.

To understand why certain things are illegal, we should understand two basic principles: (1) where laws come from; (2) why one thing, rather than another, may have a law against it.

Laws are rules which are enforced by a controlling authority or Government. In the United States, we have a Constitution, which is considered the highest body of law, or rules, in the land. The US Constitution creates three areas of government: 1. a President to oversee the country; 2. a Legislature to enact and create rules of law; and 3. a Court system to test and enforce the rules and laws enacted by the legislature.

Laws are usually made with the idea of protecting people or things. For instance, laws against driving too fast are safety-oriented and are intended to protect people. Laws against chopping down native cactuses are intended to protect the desert plants, rather than protecting people.

Before a law on anything is created, people must agree that a law is necessary. For some things, most people agree there is no need for a rule or law to control it. On the other hand, when enough people agree that a law is needed, then one may be created by the legislature. Legislatures are made up of representatives elected by people.

If something is determined to be dangerous, and people are doing it in spite of its dangers, then the legislature may create a law to prevent people from doing it and the court system may punish people who break the law.

So, marijuana, like most things which are illegal, has been determined to be a danger to the people, and because some people use it, sell it or possess it in spite of its dangers, laws were created by the legislature to prevent people from using, selling or possessing it and to punish people who violate the law.

"Why is Marijuana Illegal"? If you asked this question to 1000 different individuals within 1000 different regions of the world, the answer would come to us on such a widespread variety throughout each individual, let alone each region. So, deciding this, who is to say that marijuana, cannabis sativa, or cannabis indica is to be illegal for that spoken individual to partake amongst themselves. Any, and All have the right to decide their own fate and express themselves thereof. Now why do we obey, and agree with those that decide our rights and our fates for us? Choose your own f

The only reason marijuana is illegal is because our government can't tax it,just like prostitution. If they could tax prostitution,it would be legal.Pot was put on Earth naturally and should not be illegal.I have a friend who I would rather get in the car with him while he's smoking pot because he is a much better driver while under the influence.I dont see anything wrong with it,and I think if the right people can put up a good arguement that by at least 2010 it will be legal and they will be selling it like cigarettes and have some kind of limit on how many plants a household may grow if any.

I do not believe that marijuana use, medicinal or recreational, or possesion of marijuana should be illegal. It is a fairly mild drug, if you can even call it a drug, and has no worse effects than alcohol. In the United States, we spend nearly half a billion tax dollars on the drug war. This money could easily go toward schools and other public places that are in dire need of more funding. Also, if marijuana was made legal it could potentaly be taxed in smoke shops, much like cigarettes and alcohol are now, hence bringing more funding for better education. Marijuana is potentaly profitable.

There are many over the counter drugs that cause more deaths than illegal drugs (or herbs), yet the government still keeps them legalized. The only reason for this is because it’s easier to tax something that’s difficult for the average person to make. Also, the pharmaceutical companies make a lot of money by selling drugs even if they kill a lot more people than natural herbs (and I’m not necessarily talking about marijuana). The FDA also profits from the pharmaceutical companies so the FDA only does studies on drugs and not herbs. To prove that these pharmaceutical companies don’t care abo
