Question: What can a person be charged with if they are accused of date rape?

Answer: Date rape is often more traumatic to a victim than being raped by a stranger because the victim may have known or trusted the rapist. However, others consider date rape a less serious crime than stranger rape because it is usually committed by a social acquaintance.

According to Arizona law, there is no difference if the rape occurred in a social setting or by a complete stranger. Rape is Rape and any person committing this crime will be charged with Sexual Assault under Arizona law (ARS 13-1406).
