Question: Where do teens go to testify about rape or assault?

Answer: The answer to this question depends on whether the rape or assault is being reported for the first time or whether it is being prosecuted.

If the rape or assault has never been reported, reporting it to the local police department is the place to start. A school counselor and/or teacher can help you get to the right person in the police department.

If however, the rape or assault has been reported and there is a trial being held, the person would appear at the courthouse where the trial is being held. Every accused person has a right to face the accuser and therefore, the testimony is given in the courtroom in front of the court staff, the attorneys, the judge and the accused.
