Question: How many members are in the House sentatives of Representatives?

Answer: The House of Representatives has 435 members comprised of representatives from state districts that include around 600,000 people within the district borders (approximate 2000 US Census numbers). This means that states with higher populations, such as California and Texas, have many more congressman in the House than sparsely populated states such as Wyoming and Alaska. The Senate, however, is composed of two senators from each state so that every state is equally represented, no matter what the population of that state is.

There are also 5 non-voting members of the House of Representatives, called Delegates. They come from American Samoa, the District of Columbia, Guam, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
