Question: If the President and the Vice President die, then who becomes the President?

Answer: If both the President and the Vice President die, the Speaker of the House of Representatives assumes the position. After the Speaker, the Presidency goes to the Speaker Pro Tempore of the Senate, the Secretary of State and then down the line to various officials in the President’s cabinet. This was established in the Presidential Succession Act of 1947 and the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution.

the president does not have al the power the senate and house and the supreme courts can overule the preidents command or veto so the president is not actually not all powerful it is evened out. the only way a president can be all powerful if he comes in control of the senate and supreme court.

Also, Cassandra from NJ,I would like to hear your argument for why the President should have all the power. Thomas Jefferson said that the purpose of a distributed government (especially one by the people) is to counteract Humantity's inherent evils. Do you think that we could go for long without having a supremely powerful ruler who would destroy our liberties? With the way things are going at the moment, I would expect a quick descent into fascism.

Katie from AL, your position is dangerous. Laws are not "what they are", nor are we unable to change them. The whole point of the democratic system is so that we can influence laws and policy as individuals. If Congress passed a law saying that, for instance, your religion and all its symbols were outlawed, would you take that in stride?
