Question: How do I become emancipated from my step mom and dad (they're married and I live with them)?

Answer: The parents of a minor have a duty to support him or her. When a minor can show that he is able to support himself, he may become an emancipated minor. Whether there are legal formalities depends upon the state in which he lives. In California a minor may get a court to declare him emancipated.

In Arizona there is no statute providing for such a declaration. However, if a minor marries legally, and/or supports himself independently, with no need of support from a parent, he may be treated under the law as emancipated.

However, what this gets him is pretty much just the ability to be sued for debts that he incurs for his own support. It does not appear that it protects him from the efforts of the parent to control him.

Please check the specific statutes or laws in your state for more information.

I used to live in a group home, cuz my mom and I would fight all the time. I became very depressed becuz of all the fighting and accusations. When I moved back home about a year ago, things were fine. But about two months ago, she started accusing me of doing extrememly strange and dangerous things, and she is causing me to become depressed all over again. She accuses me of doing things that she has no proof of, and that I havent even done. I really want to become emancipated, becuz living with her is causing me a lot of pain. How do I become emancipated, if u know some

Hi, I was wondering how to become emancipated. When I am with my Mom, all she does is yell at me for stupid things and she always comes home late from work. When I do see her, she's always yelling. When I go to my Dad's house, with my Step-Mom and half sister, all those 2 do is fight constantly. They get drunk every weekend and fight about stupid things. SO, I was wondering how do I talk to somebody about getting emancipated?
