Question: My dad does not pay his child support. When I turn 18, can I sue him for the support he owes?

Answer:

Child Support is an award by the court to your mother. Only she can enforce it. If she is not receiving regular child support payments, she should get in touch with the local child support organization of the state in which you live. You can get the information for her, but she must be the party who brings the suit.

In Arizona you should call or write to Department of Economic Security, Division of Child Support Enforcement, in Phoenix at (602) 252-4045. There may be a local number in your local telephone book. This organization will file suit to see that the support and the arrears (overdue amount) are paid, and may tell you how to get in touch with the enforcement organization in another state if the parent who is not paying doesn't live in Arizona. In another state, call your local governmental information phone number, or even your state bar association information number.

My father has paid child support before, but he still owes over $20,000. Can I have my mother sue him for it? Also, my grandmother told me she sued my father about 9 years ago when I was living in Louisiana. So does that mean that my grandmother can sue him for it too? If my mama sue him for child support and I don't get the money can I sue her for it? Because I need that money and I'm gon' make my father wish he hadda been in my life.

I am about to turn 18 in June and I have a 1 year old daughter. My father never knew I was alive because he and my mom split up before she knew i was pregnant. Now we want to get child support from him for the past 18 years. We did a faternity test and proved he is the dad. Will I be able to get the back pay for the child support for the past 18 years?

this comment is for Melvin from MI, How are you going to let 18 years go by without not knowing if you fathered tha children you paid for? Did you not take a blood test before you started to pay support? I really dont think you should get anything back for all the support you have provided to the custodial mother, however I do think you should take her to court and see if a judge will listen to your story, Women are money hungry and apparently the mother of your chilren must be one very dishonest person, and what goes around comes around... so she will eventually be punished somehow, belive me
