Question: I live with my grandmother in Maine but my father has custody of me and he lives in Arizona. He does drugs, how can my grandmother get custody of me?
Answer: In cases of child abuse or neglect, the Arizona Department of Economic Security Child Protective Services division is responsible for protecting the safety of a child.
Arizona law requires certain persons who suspect that a child has received non-accidental injury or has been neglected to report their concerns to CPS or local law enforcement (ARS ยง13-3620.B). There is a toll free Arizona Child Abuse Hotline at 1-888-SOS-CHILD (1-888-767-2445).
For situations that do not necessairly involve abuse or neglect of a child, you should seek the advice of a certified legal professional. There may be some resources in your community where you can get free or discounted legal advice.
