Question: If someone in my family gets married and we don't like them can we have them keep their last legal last name? without getting our last name?

Answer:

No. A person may use any name they want unless they intend to commit some type of fraud by doing so. In this case the newly married person (I assume it is a woman) is entitled to use her husband's name. She doesn't have to, however, and could keep her former name. You, and the rest of your family have no say in the matter.

The "family" needs to get a life. What about love and acceptance? Your family member has found happiness and deserves to be left to build on that relationship without you making it more difficult.
