When Child Abuse is reported in Arizona, the agency that looks into the matter is the Arizona Department of Economic Security Child Protective Services (CPS) agency.

Arizona law requires people who suspect that a child has been injured by abuse or has been neglected to report their concerns to CPS or local law enforcement (A.R.S. § 13-3620(B)). CPS has a toll free Arizona Child Abuse Hotline at 1-888-SOS-CHILD (1-888-767-2445).

A CPS social worker takes all the information you can provide about the child's situation. This includes information about the child, the nature of your concerns, the present location of the child, and about the family with which the child lives. CPS has a criteria for response that a report must meet in order for CPS to investigate the report further.

If a report meets the criteria, a CPS specialist interviews the child and others who may have information about the childs safety such as family, parents, neighbors, teachers, doctors and friends. After all information is gathered, the CPS specialist and a supervisor review the facts and decide the next steps to take. CPS will provide services to reduce the risk to the child of further abuse and neglect.
