Question: Can a parent spank their kid at any age before 18 years old? I don't mean beat the kid just spank them?

Answer: Arizona law does provide that parents and persons acting as parents, including school personnel, may use corporal punishment (spanking). The punishment must be reasonable and not excessive.

In Arizona a child is anyone under the age of 18, and until you are 18, you are under the care, custody and control of your parent or legal guardian.

The Arizona Legislature passed a new law that went into effect on August 12, 2005 that allows minors to be emancipated. However, emancipation is a very difficult process that few are eligible for. See the LawForKids.org Laws page for more information.

I'm a mom of 2 boys. Before I had kids I was very much against spanking and I never thought that I would ever find myself spanking my children's bare behinds. I quickly changed my mind and became pro-spanking once I had them. Spanking works like a charm.

I'm an 82 year old great-grandmother. In these politically correct anti-spanking times just look at how badly children behave in public. Last week in the supermarket a 5 or 6 year old was so bad, touching everything, screaming and being very disobedient to his mother. His mother just gave an embarrassed smile and told us "he's going through a phase". Phase or no phase, what that mother should have done was to march the disobedient child into the rest room, pulled down his pants and gave his bare behind a good smacking until it was as red as a tomato!!!

I'm a mom of 4 children. a girl 3 and a half, and 3 boys 5, 7, and 8. I spank when needed and always on their bare behinds. Each child is different. My 7 year old son is a very agreeable child and very rarely needs to be spanked. My daughter is always testing the waters so she gets it now and then. My 5 year son can be very difficult and stubborn and does not listen, so he gets it pretty often. He is a certainly a real handful to say the least, so his behind frequently has a bit of a pinkish hue to it.

Yes it is legal to spank your kids. You can use something like a belt and they can be dressed or naked. But you can't leave a mark. Also, spankings on sensitive areas like the face or genitals are illegal.
