Question: When the law attempts to arrest someone for not paying child support, and this person runs from the law what would the punishment be for this crime?
Answer: Usually for simple non payment of child support, a person will not be arrested. He will have his or her wages garnished if he or she is working. He will have any income tax return intercepted and sent to pay child support. He can have his drivers' license suspended.
For a simple case of owing money, we do not generally put people in jail in this country. If a person is in prison or jail, he cannot earn money to pay the debt.
A parent has a duty to support his or her child. With some exceptions, a parent who knowingly fails to furnish reasonable support for the parent's child is guilty of a class 6 felony. (A.R.S. § 25-511)

I agree i am in the same situation, my husband pays support for his son from his first marriage,50% of his pay because we keep getting behind because we have three kids and we only have half of what he makes and its real hard to live on, if he makes more they take more and it never ends. I guess the three kids we have dont matter. He got put in jail before because our baby got real sick was in the hospital and almost died, so he missed a lot of work and we got behind and when we tried telling the judge she did not care one bit. Its crazy the courts act like they care about kids, they hurt them

I'm married to a wonderful man who tries to pay his child support, But they just ask for to much. He's tried to get it reduced but they won't even give it a second thought. We have to children together and its like they take the food out of my childrens mouth for the other. Its not fair to my children that they have to suffer because the courts won't listen.My husband works his butt off. We are currently behind on all of our bills because of all the money they take. Every time we start to get ahead they come back for more.Its hard to clothe our own children.ITS JUST NOT FAIR TO OUR CHILDREN!!!

Never called her.....then he remarried a woman with 6 kids. My ex came after me.......actually tricked me and coerced me......he has custody now....knowing I had no money to get a lawyer...he won. Today, just today I got the judgment from court on child support. I make 1,669.00/ judgment for me to pay is: 534.00 and 50. a month for medical......total 584.00 a month! For one child! Not to mention back child support. I am ruined

The laws in this country regarding child support give the females WAY too much power. Take me for instance. I got out of the Navy last year and it took me 3 months to find work. Since then, I have been unemployed twice, yet the child support kept adding up. The way the judge calculated my support was incompetent. This is not always the case, you cant hold everyone responsible to the same level as not all fathers are deadbeat dads. It is supposed to be judged on a case by case basis. Making rulings based on tradition is unconstitutional as a ruling such as that would not provide equality. Any judge or police officer making such a judgment based on tradition or statistics is violating there own oath of office.
