Question: I am 11 years old and would like to be able to get my last name changed to my step dad's. What do I have to do?

Answer: People who wish to change their name have to file an application in the Superior Court of the county that they live in. When minors (or children) want to change their name, the court considers what is in the best interest of the child. The court considers factors such as the wishes of both natural parents, the effect of the name on the child; and how a name change may affect the child.

My parents are on the verge of getting a divoce, and I want to change my mother's maiden name to my last name. Her maiden name is my middle name, would the court let me drop my last name, and keep my name just my first and mother's maiden as my last ?

I was 11 when i decided i wanted my step-dads last name but the bad thing was that I would have to see my real dad in order to do that. I have never seen my real dad before so I was very scared.I thought what if he might want to see me so I never did get my last name changed and now i regret it becuase my step dad and my mom are divorced and I hate not being really his. And now I can't find him adn talk to him. There is a-lot of things you have to do though in order to get your last name changed. Good luck.

No they can't she has a right to change her name. But it's only up to her,you cant change it for her only if she wants.so yes she can.The mother has no right saying that she can't change it because she can.
