Question: A biological father who has not seen his son in 7 years recently started paying child support. Does he still have parental rights?

Answer:

It is unfortunate that this son has not seen his father in 7 years but if he is the biological father and his parental rights have not been terminated, then he does have parental rights. The father does have visitation rights as well as a responsibility to pay child support. You can find the specific guidelines for visitation and child support by going to www.superiorcourt.maricopa.gov/familycourt

I'm in the same boat but my "father" is verbal abuse and now it has truned physical. What is the right of kids, if they can not get someone to listen to them when this is going on??? Why should he have rights - when he was out of my life for so long and now that I'm old enough to take care of myself, he walks back in as if he never left and thinks I should just open my arms to him. Only reason he is back is because he has to pay child support. HELP
