Question: What rights do parents have when a child turns 17?

Answer: A child is considered a minor in Arizona until their 18th birthday. That means that any time between birth and the day someone turns 18, they are considered a child for purposes of Arizona law. Children are in the care of the parents until they become adults, meaning parents make decisions about their care until they become adults.

Children can not enter into contracts, make legal decisions, or vote. Although there are some things that begin to change as you get older, for example, being able to earn a driver's license, you are still considered a child in the eyes of the law until you turn 18.

Im going to be 17 yrs old in Aug. & i wanted to move in with a friend of mine. She is 18 & is going to be getting in apartment soon.Since im already having problems at home with my moms husband,I thought it would be a good idea just to move out & not have to deal with all the drama at home. Is it even possible for me to move out at that age? My moms husband basically treats me like dirt,& threatens me, telling me hes going to "bust me in the face" if i disrespect him again. I told my mom i was going to be moving out when i turned 17 & she basically gave me permission to leave, & said "yes".

Hey kiddo, i'm not really 150, I just feel like i am. Guess what, i wanted to be away from my parent to. Thats been alot of years ago. How i wish i could see my mom and dad now! Theres both dead. I put them through alot of grieve, all because i was stupid. sounds like most of you are too. Go ahead move out, be dumb now, and for the rest of your life. The only people that really love you in this world when your 17 is your parents. Your boyfriends, we all know why they love you, it'll be fun for a while. then where are, well, maybe you have aids now, who'll take care of you, PARENTS!

Why would all of these girls want to move out? Maybe, because you don't like rules? Well girls, I am 17 and I have a 8 month old son, makes you think I should be imancipated, huh? Well, in the state of PA, I'm not.. I can only concent for mine and my sons medical treatment. The reason I want to be imancipated is because, when I told my family that I was pregnant, they all told me I would have to drop out of school and be a failure at life. Well, I go to school and raise my son. With becoming imancipated I could move out and show my reponcibility. Think about your choices before you make them!
