Question: My 17 year old sister is in SEF unit 14 how can I talk to her can we email each other?
Answer: Detainees in SEF don’t have access to e-mail in there. The only way they
can communicate is through mail. The address is 1810 S. Lewis St. Mesa, AZ 85210.
Make sure and put your sister’s name and unit number on the envelope. You
can’t put anything but a letter in the envelope. You can put pictures but
they have to be appropriate or your sister won’t be able to view them.
The pictures also get taken away, she can only look at them and then they get
put in a “personals” bin and she receives them when she leaves. She
should also make sure that the letter is not loaded up with gang writing or a
lot of cussing. The officers have the discretion of withholding letters that
appear inappropriate and can give them to the detainee’s probation officer
if they feel it’s necessary.
Unfortunately, only the legal guardians and grandparents can visit and have the
ability to communicate with the detainee via phone. (once she achieves phone
privileges).
