He is violating his probaiton because he still drinks and when I went to his house recently he had marijuana in a back room. He is hiding this from his wife so she will let him visit with his son (they are separated because he refuses to stop using drugs and alcohol). I am worried about my nephew and his safety when he stays with my brother. What should I do?
Answer: It may be difficult, but if you are truly concerned about your nephew, I would suggest talking to your brother's wife and telling her that your brother is still using drugs and alcohol. It can be a very dangerous situation for a young child to be around a person who is under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
If she is not willing to call your brother's probation officer, I suggest calling your brother's probation officer and report his violation. A probation officer can take the necessary steps to not only protect your nephew, but also help your brother fight his battle against drugs and alcohol.
