Question: Are Tattoos and body piercing allowed to be shown? Ok in School?

Answer: Tattoos and body piercing are considered to be an expression of thought and are protected by the first amendment right to free speech (United States Constitution).

However, people under 18, because of their age and status as minors, are subject to rules which adults are not.

This true of school rules and attendance. At school, rules can be made that tattoos, piercing, clothes or hair-color must be covered or changed, and these rules are not unconstitutional.

Parents also have a right to control the behavior of children, and so can order their children to not display tattoos, piercing, or other things such as hair color.

i want my ear pierced again (my second hole), but my mom keeps saying i am too young. in my oppinion, i think kids should get piercings without parents, if it is in a normal place (ears, eyebrows, navals, lips, etc.), but i think that kids should at least be 18 before they get tattoos because they scar you for life. i go to a private school, and they say you can only have a piercing in the lobe area, not the cartrige. i think people should express themselves however they want and be more independent. we all should not look like little clones with clone outfits. in my opinion i think it's really okay for someone to get a tatoo if they are sure that it is something they really want. i wanted to get a tatoo when i was 13, but wasn't ready to, so i waited till i was ready. i'm really proud of it, it's kindda like a symbol of me growing up.

OK theres really nothing wrong with some one getting ink or a peircing it could be a symbol of some sort.Like i have 10 peircings 1 for every friend or time that ive felt pain and thats not a bad way to deal with things just as long as you know what your doing and do it responsibaly. So when some one thinks that a person like me is a freak then maybe there jealous or may be they are just not willing to take the time to try and understand.

I don't think kids my age should get tats but I think it's okay for them to get peircings. Only if they take care of it and really want to have it. Tats should come latter in life so that ur sure u want it cuz u can't just wash it off u know. But w/ a peircing u can take out the ring and let it close up if u don't want it no more.
