Question: Are there laws concerning how many hours of homework a school is allowed to assign?

Answer: No. There are no laws that regulate how much homework can be assigned. But many school districts have policies that set guidelines for homework based on grade level. A student or parent concerned about homework should ask the school principal if the school district has guidelines.

As a student we should not have any homework. I say this because we go to school and work from 8:00am to 3:00pm. We do everything teachers tell us to and do our work, and then over half the day is gone by the end of the school day. Then we have to go home and do more and have no time to hang out or what ever you do for fun cause you are overwellmed with homework.

Hey, I'm in 8th grade and I believe I get too much homework. I'm in the advanced classes at my school, and I get 2 1/2 to three hours of homework each night. I myself am an A-B+ student, and I think that homework that focususes on doing 50 problems is not good. i believe we should have less homework, but make it more challnging, more stimulating to the mind. Basically, just making you excersize your brain, learn what you have to, and have more free time. But what makes me mad about homework, is the weight of my backpack. it can weigh in at 15-25 pounds varying on the day. This is because

Homework is a measure of how well a pupil understands a learned topic. Grades should not be determined by these measuring tools. Therefore, homework should not be included in grades, and grades in general should not be used against students, aka not making a team because of grades or getting your driver permit revoked.
