Question: Are there laws concerning how many hours of homework a school is allowed to assign?

Answer: No. There are no laws that regulate how much homework can be assigned. But many school districts have policies that set guidelines for homework based on grade level. A student or parent concerned about homework should ask the school principal if the school district has guidelines.

I agree, jesse i go to school from 8:35 to 3:45! then i get more than an hour of homework from each class. its so dumb. THey should shorten the hours of school or shorten the homework load. Everyone is starting to fail their class because they dont want to do the homework, They want to have a life. Your only a teen once. We should be able to have fun and do well in school at the same time. ITs not fair how teachers treat you. Its like every teacher thinks thats the only major class with homework. they wont listen to you saying look i cant get this done can you atleast extend the time. THere sh

Don't get me wrong, I'm not too hot on the whole homework issue. But I'm starting to think that homework may actually do some good. Some of your are well into high school, and your spelling and grammer aren't that great. I personally don't think homework should be required, but do you really think that they are going to change that when they look at your writing?

As students, our job is doing well in school, and that means doing the homework, whether we like it or not. However, it is our right to dislike and even speak up against the amount of HW we get, but before doing that, it's better to think critically about why we get a certain assignment. This is often half the battle, because it motivates you do do it, and to do it well. And as for the seemingly-completely unimportant ones, ask the teacher why (respectfully, not just blurting it out in class), and if they can't tell you clearly, then you should probably not do it.

i think that the lenth of school is too long... i go from 7:30- 2:30 and then i got loads of homework... you are right there should be a law forbidding homework, and they should also have a law to shorten days @ school. Thanks! *~Kayla~*
