Question: What is the maximum penalty for underage drinking?

Answer:

In Arizona, A.R.S. § 8-323 provides for the following penalties for a minor who purchases, possesses, or consumes, spirituous liquor:

 

1. Probation

2. A juvenile court hearing

3. Driving privileges suspended for 180 days.

4. Attendance at a counseling or education program.

5. A fine of up to $500.00

6. Community service work.

7. If truancy is involved, a whole host of programs with parents.

8. With a prior record that indicates delinquency, a whole other host of headaches.

9. A stern talking to by the judge

I used to drink when I was about 13 or 14,i used to runway alot to. When I ran away I got raped.I don't blame nobody but myself because nobody made me drink.

I think that the government DOES need to take a look at the law. I have grown up in a home where having a glass of wine with dinner is not an uncommon thing. If my mom is sitting down having a beer i've been use to "the beer is in the fridge". if i want one, then i go and get one. I've been acustom to this my whole life. I rarely go to partys because i dont like the whole peer pressure atmosphere. I am what i consider a responsible drinker. I think the government needs to seriously consider a change of the drinking laws for "under aged" citizens. This prohibition of alcohol to minors encourages irresponsible drinking habits.
