Question:

Why is marijuana illegal?

Answer:

Something is illegal when laws are passed prohibiting it. Marijuana is against the law because there are specific laws which make it illegal.

To understand why certain things are illegal, we should understand two basic principles: (1) where laws come from; (2) why one thing, rather than another, may have a law against it.

Laws are rules which are enforced by a controlling authority or Government. In the United States, we have a Constitution, which is considered the highest body of law, or rules, in the land. The US Constitution creates three areas of government: 1. a President to oversee the country; 2. a Legislature to enact and create rules of law; and 3. a Court system to test and enforce the rules and laws enacted by the legislature.

Laws are usually made with the idea of protecting people or things. For instance, laws against driving too fast are safety-oriented and are intended to protect people. Laws against chopping down native cactuses are intended to protect the desert plants, rather than protecting people.

Before a law on anything is created, people must agree that a law is necessary. For some things, most people agree there is no need for a rule or law to control it. On the other hand, when enough people agree that a law is needed, then one may be created by the legislature. Legislatures are made up of representatives elected by people.

If something is determined to be dangerous, and people are doing it in spite of its dangers, then the legislature may create a law to prevent people from doing it and the court system may punish people who break the law.

So, marijuana, like most things which are illegal, has been determined to be a danger to the people, and because some people use it, sell it or possess it in spite of its dangers, laws were created by the legislature to prevent people from using, selling or possessing it and to punish people who violate the law.

I believe that pot should be legalized. It helps with many different diseases, and I agree with the fact that it was put on this earth naturally and should not be illegal!I am doing a research paper on Legalizing Marijuana and I found some of your reasons extremely useful. Marijuana is not a bad thing at all. I was against it but now,I think its better then them going out and getting drunk or smoking cigarettes. Of all illegal substances MARIJUANA SHOULD BE LEAGALIZED!I'm all for it! And if people write about pot and stuff, that doesnt mean they smoke!

I personaly think that there should be tighter secruity around places that people think there might be marijuna stashed away. I also think that there should be more secruity around both public and private schools. These days, parents don't know if their kids are smoking coke or marijuna or crack or anything like that. And even if parents ask their kids, their kids won't say anything anyways.

As an anti weed person i feel that there should be strikter laws on marijuana. Many people see "weed" as a harmless drug, however do you pro weed smokers not realise that hard regular drug users (cocaine, crack etc) start off on marijuana? It has also been known to coarse cancer 10 times more effectivly than regular tobacco smoking. It also makes the smoker paranoid, continuosly tired, suicidle and unaware of the effects their habit is doing to their friends and family. I had friends who smoked weed, in fact it was a school craze, anyways they all changed and i miss their old selves.

Okay, what you have described is anything but the fault of marijuana. It is secondly the fault of your husband for being irresponsible and/or having an addictive personality, and firstly your fault for choosing to throw away your money encouraging his habits by supporting them at terrible cost to you. Please don't think that everyone who ever smokes a joint once in a while fits this description.

No one realizes the harm they are causing on the road when they are high! Of course you think you are a better driver. I am sure drunk drivers who kill people think they are good drivers too. If everything appears to be moving slower that should be a sign to you that your reaction time has been affected. Consequently, if something was to occur you would react much slower and the chances of you getting into an accident (that could have been avoided)would increase drastically. Way to go, stoner! Let's hope you don't kill someone and find yourself bragging about it on this website.
