Question: When I was found drunk by cops, I was drunk, but I didn't have any alcohol on me. The cop said it is an MIP. Why did they call it an MIP when I didn't have any alcohol on me?

Answer: A person under the age of 21 cannot legally possess or consume alcohol (ARS 4-244(9)) . It is a class 1 misdemeanor (ARS Sec. 4-246(B)) for a person under the legal drinking age to possess or consume alcohol. When the officer said Minor in Possession (MIP) he was citing that law, which allows a for a minor who consumes alcohol to be charged, not just physical possession.

One final note: A person found guilty for two offenses like this in juvenile court loses the right to drive until they reach the age of 18. (ARS 28-3320(7)).

When you get your first MIP and get your learners permit suspended, and if you have had it for more than 6 months, will you have to have it another 6 months when you get it back to get your license after that?

Isn't it interesting that one cannot posses or consume alcohol under the age of 21. But it is perfectly legal to handle/sell it as a bartender or waiter at the age of 18.

I have a question that no one seems to really be able to answer.Ok I am 19,and at age 18 you are supposed to be a legal adult. As far as right to vote and move out of your parents house and things of that nature. With that said then you also are charged as an adult,Not a "minor" so if a 21 year old purchases alcohol for a person not yet 21,but over 18,what happens? Can they charge the 21 year old?If so then that shows that at 18 you are still just a kid in the laws eyes because they should punish the 18 year old who was given the responsibilitys of an adult not the 21 year old.Right?

If I know that a neighbor provides alchohol to their kids' parties or that there's a party going on, whether it's loud or not, I call the cops.
