Question: Can you get in trouble for trying to buy beer but not buying it with a fake id?

Answer: Yes. A person under the legal drinking age who misrepresents their age by using a written form of identification with the intent to have another person sell, give or furnish alcohol to them is guilty of a class one (1) misdemeanor.

Since your question was about an attempt to buy beer, the attempt changes the class one (1) to a class two (2) misdemeanor. A class two (2) misdemeanor is punishable by up to four (4) months in jail and a fine of up to $750.

However, using a forged document (the fake ID), you would be guilty of a class four (4) FELONY. This is punishable by up to three (3) years in prison and a fine of $150,000.

alright the punishments here are the maximum allowed by law. you have to throw into consideration that the cop busting you is gonna feel bad for screwing over some kid who just wanted beer. and if you go to court the judge is never going to give you even close to the maximun sentence. but you'll still probably get a small fine and possibly community service
