Question: What is the maximum penalty for underage drinking?

Answer:

Arizona law (A.R.S. § 8-323) provides for the following penalties for a minor who purchases, possesses, or consumes, spirituous liquor:

1. Probation.

2. A juvenile court hearing.

3. Driving privileges suspended for 180 days.

4. Attendance at a counseling or education program.

5. A fine of up to $500.00.

6. Community service work.

7. If truancy is involved, a whole host of programs with parents.

8. With a prior record that indicates delinquency, a whole other host of headaches.

9. A stern talking to by the judge. (Don't laugh, an angry judge is a very scary thing.)

It appears that a judge can impose any combination of these things that she thinks is a good idea. Laws in other states are probably similar. The law about juveniles is never cut and dried.

I recently got cited for underage drinking, because I blew a .001. First, do they have to inform u when u blow something? cuz they didnt tell me, i found out when i got the citation. And two, how should I plead? Everyone else who got cited all has to go to the same conference with the judge, but I'm not sure how to plead. Plus, .001 is such a small number. any help?

You would have to contact the INS. I do not know the exact INS regulation on underage drinking but they can either detain you indefinetely, revoke your visa, charge you in a federal court, or extradite you.

Nicole, listen, I dont know how old you are and im not going to lecture you, but I am in college and I am 22. I have seen plenty of underage drinkers, its not cool. If you have been caught 3 times you should be more worried about where you life is headed, than trying to get off on a technicality. You really should be careful, maybe wait til you turn 21 to drink. My 21st b-day was a blast and it feels so much better not to have to sneek around to drink. Be careful alright.
