Question: Can I read my Bible in school to my self in class?

Answer: The work that students do in class is subject to the control of the teacher. However, if a teacher gives no guidelines on what students may select to read during a free reading period, a student may read the Bible or any other religious literature.

Rules about religion in the public school system usually only apply to teachers. They cannot affirm nor deny religions and they cannot condone nor condemn them. Also, they usually cannot talk about them unless they are pertinent to the subject matter at hand (ie. Listing the major tenets of Hinduism while teaching about India). For students, as long as they not required to work on something specific and are not being disruptive can pray or talk and read about religion. Whether religious works should or should not be read/taught due to their merits is only opinion and irrelevant.

I believe that as long as the student is not reading aloud or disrupting the class he or she should be able to read their Bible. It reflects their believes and they are reading on their own time.
