A person could get up to 10 years in jail for stealing a car.  16-13-30.  Additionally, it is also a crime to break into a car and that is punishable by up to 5 years in jail.  16-13-160.  Finally, carjacking is more serious.  Carjacking is forcibly taking someone's car while they are in it.  If the person is not badly injured, the carjacker could face up to 20 years in jail.  If the driver is greatly injured the carjacker could face up to 30 years in jail.  16-3-1075.
