My name is john and im 17, i live in south carolina with my dad..ok heres the story. I recently dropped out of school because i made some bad choices the earlier part of the semester and my grades are irrecoverable. I know i messed up and i take responsibilty for that. Anyways,im going back to school in August because i want my diploma, i didnt quit because i was lazy i took a brief vacation to gather myself. well i have a job now i work full time at piggly wiggly. Prior to dropping out my father told me if i did that that i would have to pay for my own rent, water bill, light bill, car insurance, gas, everything i needed money for i would have to pay...and hes keeping me grounded while he is MAKING me stay here and pay him, so its like im paying to be punished. i would like to move out of the house, but what i really wanna know is if it is legal for him to make me pay him me not being emancipated, im goin crazy, thanks!

Your dad shouldnt make you pay. Your not 18 and you dont have to pay. If i were you i would go back to school like you have planed, keep your job and get it togeather. When you 18 move out and pay your own way. Move out with a group of people. .

Hey John, I to had dropped out of school due to poor choices. I went directly to work and chose to go back to school as well. The situation with your father I can understand. What he is trying to do is make it almost unlivable for you so you WILL go back to school. My suggestion is this. I see that your 17, depending on what year you dropped out it may be easier for you to enroll in night school. And still work during the day. Then talk to your father about reducing your bills in half. If you are TRULEY COMMITED to yourself and your education you will succeed AND make your life at home easier.

I think you should talk to a famliy member about moveing out of the house a wanted to do the same thing so I call my ant and she siad yes so she came to talk to my dad & mom they were taiking for a long time then I didn't leve ever thing chage. good luck!
