Prom night – nothing could be more exciting, right? My best friend and I had spent hours looking for dresses and doing our hair. It was perfect. We had been waiting for this night since both of us could remember and nothing was going to ruin it. My best friend called me the night before and told me that her parents had to go on an emergency trip to see her dying grandmother. It was a really sad story but what interested us was that she was planning on throwing a huge prom party at her house.

That night after we got our pictures and dinner, my date and I headed over to her house. I couldn’t believe how many people had shown up! Everyone was there and everyone was having a great time! People were drinking and dancing and everything was awesome. I decided to spend the night over there so that I could help clean up the next day.

Her parents got home the next morning at about the same time the police arrived. It turns out that someone who had been at the party had gotten into an accident and was intoxicated. The police asked where they got the alcohol and they pointed at my friend’s house. The police were very nice and explained to all of us that adults can be charged with a Class 1 misdemeanor if they knowingly allow minors to drink on their property (ARS 4-241.H.) Fortunately her parents didn’t know anything about the party or the alcohol! But police also told us that there is still a chance that through their homeowner’s insurance, her parents might get sued (be held civilly liable) because someone got hurt as a result of the party.

Im not sorry about anything that happened. Even for the parents. They left the child home, and she decided to have a party, they should be responsible about the situation and maybe next time they will thinnk twice on not leaving their child home on prom night. It's reality that most students drink on prom night, so they should have known something like that would go on. I hope the lady learned a lesson and she wont have another party.

Andrea I know how it is to be excited about Prom. But drinking and parting is not the best way to have fun. I think that you and your friend should be liable for what happened. I am my own drug I act goofy and look drunk but when it comes to making decisions my mind is clear.

Andrea, I think what not only the parents but also the kids should have been punished. The parents were in the wrong by leaving kids alone on prom night knowing that their would be drinking and parties. But I also think that the kids should of been punished to.

I think it's stuped that her parents are going to get sued because some person can't stay off the road when he's drunk. But take away poeple key when you have a party so that can't drunk and drive.

Andrea, well i am very sorry to hear about the way things ended up. But, most likely something would have gone wrong if not the kid who got in an accident. The truth of the matter is that no matter how good of an idea it seems to be the consequences are way more important than the fun. Highschool is supposed to fun right? Right, but with fun you learn some great lessons and this is one of those. Breaking the law will never get you anywhere in life. So next time I hope you will think about this situation. Prom is one of the greatest night of your life in highschool. But, for me I would like to
