It is illegal to give or sell any prescription drug (such as Prozac, Zoloft, Zyrtec, Ritalin, Adderall, codeine, etc.) to someone else. According to South Carolina law, "It shall be unlawful for any person knowingly or intentionally to possess a controlled substance unless the substance was obtained directly from, or pursuant to a valid prescription . . . ." What this means is that unless a doctor has written a prescription for that particular person, he or she would be violating the law if he or she was in possession of prescription drugs.
The penalty for selling or giving away prescription drugs will depend on what type of drug was sold or given away.
