How's it goin?  I'm Ernest. I'm 15 years old and have never been in any trouble before. In fact, I've been on the honor roll all through high school. But now I've really got trouble.  I don't know why I did it, but on a dare from a friend, I borrowed this one neighbor's car. You see, we knew the keys were always in the ignition. Right now, I wish they weren't that day. Anyway, I guess I'm not that great of a driver yet and I accidentally went up over a curb and hit an old lady.  Geez, she's my grandma's age, 72, and I hurt her bad! The police and ambulance showed up and I was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.  And from what I understand, back in 1997 a law got passed in Arizona where this type of case has to be filed in the adult justice system! Before, I might've gotten time in the juvenile jail or put on probation, but now I'll have to serve 7-1/2 years in adult prison!

7 and 1/2 years is not at all a bad deal. Unfortunately, you don't seem to have learned your lesson. You regret driving because you are going to be punished, not because you injured an innocent old lady. The old don't heal as well as the young do. You can bounce back, but she'll suffer. Look, I'm sure everyone's heard that driving is a privilege and not a right. But it's true. Cars are big and people are small.  If that had been a five year old, the kid would have been dead and you would be facing a murder charge. Consider yourself lucky.

Listen, joyriding seems like a pretty fun thing to do. But, it's not. When I did it with my 2 other friends everything was going good until we got home and their parents were up waiting for us. They knew everything and they called our other parents. Know I'm grounded for the rest of my summer before going into 9th grade and my parents are very disappointed and practically hate me right now. And we only did it because my friend was moving the next day. Pretty stupid, huh? Anyways, joyriding stinks. Its not what its cut out to be. In the end its not worth it.
