    Question:

How long can someone go to jail if they murder someone?

    Answer:

Assuming that the person is charged with murder in South Carolina, SC Code 16-3-20 requires that someone convicted of murder must be sentenced to death, imprisonment for life, or imprisonment for at least 30 years.

So, the shortest possible sentence for murder in South Carolina is 30 years and the longest sentence is life.  Also, a person may be punished by death.
