Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

How many kids reading this have ever heard their parents say, "if you need money, get a job" or "money doesn't grow on trees", "show us that you can be responsible" ?? Parents are struggling. The economy is crashing. Kids need money! The job age should be 12 or 13 years old, not 14. It limits our rights as citizens of the United States! We are a FREE country!!! Not a 'FREE only if your'e 14 years or older' country! I'm starting a petition right here and now. If you need a job, submit your name under my post and say that you support The Fight Against Job Age Limits.

im 13 and i need a job. my mom is struggling with the bills and times are hard. does it really make a difference if your'e 13 or 14?? jobs shouldn't have age limits. it restricts our rights as Americans.
