Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

13 year olds should be aloud to have an afternoon job. Some adolescents ,like me, don't get allowance and should be able to earn their money a different way just as adults do.

Most of us girls bring up shopping, that's not going to help us any. I think they are aware some of us are responsible and mature, but i think they are also aware that some of us aren't. I think they've just got to start trusting us like they trust everyone else, that are older. I need money for a bank account so i can start saving the money i'm going to need. Don't you think that would be the responsible thing to do? Chris? What does it matter if we can't spell? I don't think all of us 13 yr olds are looking for a job in Training and Development. Good Luck to us, we should start a pertition!

Im 13 and I have this whole summer to myself, but I desperately need my own job. So, why should I wait for next year when I'm capable of doing most jobs that 14 and 15 year olds can do.
