Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

lol yes well then look harder for a job its not like it is any easy when you are 14 trust me. i will be fifteen in july and it is still hard to find a job but i find odd jobs to do and i have decent money. Anywayz your not even in high school when you are 13 you don't even have proper ID if iwas an employer i wouldn't want to hire someone that young anyways.

hey, i am a 13 year old and i think it's fine for a 13 to work. if they make that choice it shows that they want to show responibility. we need money too, and we could help our parents out too, cuz alot of parents struggle with money and if their son/daughter had a job it would help out alot.
