Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

why do only 14 year olds get to have a jobs but 13 year olds don't it's not fair because i don't like to ask my mon and dad for money all the time because i know that i can get a job and so what if your 13 just a year apart or just a couple of months i'll be 14 oct and i don't see why i can't get a job if i get one now then i will know how it fell and what to do. but if i just lay around the house and do nothing then it wil be just a boring summer and sometimes i might not have any thing to do. but if i gaet a job then there will be plenty to do and i think it's responiblity so reall i=job plz

Hey I'm 13 and I think all 13 year old should have a job. Even though 14 years old can work they don't even want to. So just let the age limited be 13. I'm ready to work.
