Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I think that 13 year olds should be able to work. I believe I am mature enough, there are alot of jobs that i could do just as good as someone a year or more older. My parents don't just hand out money, they don't have much to begin with. I have been trying to find a job for forever and there are none. I strongly believe 13 year olds are old enough to work,if we are mature we will now when someone is taking advantage of us. Anyway age is just a number. There are many of us 13 year olds that would like to work. I think it isn't fair at all

Hi i am 13 years old. I think that we should be able to start working at 13. I hate it when i have to ask my dad for money. When i earn the money on my own and go and buy things i feel more appreciative. I feel better with myself knowing that i earned the money on my own and was able to buy my own things. I think that we should at least be able to get like host/bus jobs or Mc. Donalds.
