Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?
Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I think its unfare that we cant get jobs. We spend so much time looking just to get turned down. I'm tired of everyone in my family having money to through around and i dont. 13 year olds should be alowed to have jobs. When will they see that if were willing to work they should let us.

i think we should be able to get jobs becuz we are sometimes resopnsible. oi just want to get monjey so i can save 4 a car. and go shopping but do they care no. my mom is a single hard working mom .yeah we get 400 a month but thats not goin to cover the phone ,cable ,water and power,car ,car insureance,my money for lunch . oh yea its not goin to cover the shots for my dogs .and my clothes . her clothes gifts for the familly ,dentil,check ups , . tghey dont know what every 1 needs , and yet they say they feel our pain .
