Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

If I WANT a job, why not give me one? It actually is unfair. If you get good grades, I think you should have the right to a job! What the big deal?!?

I am 13 and I'm highly capable of working. Many others along with myself should be able to work. What if they need money to save up if their parents cant or if they pay to many bills. I've baby sat but now there is many adults that are laid off from their job{s} and take over ours and they trust them more because they are older. I dont get it. Why do we have to suffer.there might not be enough jobs for all of us but the smart and willing to speake up shouldnt have to wait for years. These voices should be heard we shouldnt have to wait.
