Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I think 13 year olds should be able to get jobs and work like 14 year olds do! I think that once you get in your teen years, you should be able to get a job! Also as you get older, you like to go places with your friends and your parents aren't always going to give you the money for those activities! Then you are going to have to sit at home and do nothing all day! Some people say it's only 1 year difference but a year can be along time if we have nothing to do! So please let 13 year olds work!

I AGREE WITH ALL OF YOU GUYS, I'VE JUST LOOK ON THE INTERNET AND THERE'S NOTHING FOR 13 YEAR OLDS. I THINK IS SO UNFAIR. NOW ONE WANTS TO GIVE US A JOB BECAUSE WE ARE TOO YOUNG. I THINK WE ARE RESPONSIBLE AND MATURE ENOUGH TO HAVE A JOB BUT THE PROBLEM IS THAT NOW ONE WOULD WANT TO TRY AND GIVE US A JOB.

I think 12 and 13 year olds should be able to get a job if they want it. The only thing they need is to be responsable. If we want a job we should go for it.
