Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

well I really wanted to have a job too. so my school gave a red cross babysitting coures and you learn how to do everything from baby cpr to changing a babies diper It was cool pluse i got a red cross certifacet that shows that i took the class and that I learned everything pluse I don't have to take the class again unless i want to. If your school dosn't offer it then you could go to a local YMCA and maby thay would have some info on the class or you could go to www.redcross.org and maby they would have some info on where the class might be tought in you communtiy. good luck!!
