Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

Alright, I'm only twelve and My GF last summer (she was twelve too) went to a golf-course and asked for a job.He said come back when she's thirteen.Well I think she's forgotten about it, and I wouldn't mind earning some cash. But, then I went around this lil area where I live where theres grocery-stores and resteraunts and stuff. All said 15 was the age that they required their workers to be.It's just the place your asking for work at that matters. And even though you cannot get a job like at the register you can still mow lawns,My dad had said.I asked him if he had a job at 13.He said"Yeah."See?
