Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I think the responsibe kids should have a job so that we don't have to depend on our parents to pay for every thing. When we go I wan't to be able to treat my mother and father.I won't to go to the mall with my friend's and exactually have money of my own and not my mothers money.

I think that it is not fair that 13 year olds dont get to get a job because most 13 year olds are very mature for thier age. Plus if that person dosn't get involved in drugs, alcohol and gets good grades then 13 year olds should be able to get a good job no matter what.

Hi my name is Asia and I am 13 years old and I KNOW I am mature enough and responsible enough to have a job. I don't care if it's bagging groceries as long as I am getting paid. Yeah I believe that we shall start off small until we can work our way up to a better job. I personally think that starting to work at the age of 14 is not really a big deal if you can work at the age of 14 why not work at the age of 13. I personally think that 13 year olds are just as mature as 14 year olds so what the big difference at starting at the age of 14 than starting at the age of 13.
