Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I belive that instead of by age, there should be a kind of test to see if children are immature. This law of labor age doesn't work because I know 14 year olds who DO work but are NOT responsible enough to and younger kids who are responsible enough but are held back from the world of jobs...Please consider changing the law. Thank you.

I believe that children at the age of 13 should be able to receive jobs. If the public think that we are not maturethen you as the law should make up tests concerning what we want to be. Because we want to do things such as working to get extra money. So we don't have to depend on our parent

I think all 13 year olds have the right to work as much as anyone else. I mean like they should not keep 13 year olds from working in any restront or anywhere.

What I really think is that all thirteen year olds should be allowed to get a job. Some thriteen year olds parents or family might be under some money problems, and if the child was allowed to get a job it would make their family more happy. Some parents think that their child is not mature enough, well if they were allowed to have a job, their parents would think they are now mature and they would think that their child could also be more successful in the future. If it were all up to me, heck I would change the age of getting a job! Well now all of you know what I think! C-ya!!!!
