Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I don't think that a 12 year old needs a job. That is too young and it's against the law to hire anyone under the age of 14.I personally think that 14 is too young to have a job but I have one because I get my first car next year.

i disagree with all that junk. i am 13 and i just turn 13 recently and i need a job badly.i am responsible young man, also i am agreat student at school who makes a/b honor roll every year, so there is no reason 13 year olds should be able to have a job!!
