Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I think that we 13 year olds should be able to get a job because we want to be independant. If we're asking for a job doen't that show you that we're ready to take on the respnsiblity or having a job.At least a job we can have that independance not to be able to depend on our parents for any money because we're making our own.Having a job is much better than being at home not making our own dreams come true.I think it would be a great thing for us 13 years old to do after school other than hustling in the streets.
