Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

It should not matter if you are 13 14 or 15 to know if you could execute a job. If you are 13 and you are responsible you could perform just as well as any 15 year old. Im 13. Why can't I wash hair at a salon? Put makeup on people? Be a waitress. It's not that hard to carry drinks and understand someones order. You're parents hate spending money on you but what can you do? Its not like we can get jobs. " You're too young to drive to your job, you dont have a license" excuses, excuses! why cant we have stay at home jobs like adults? and what if your mom doesnt work and she offers to drive you?

I am also 13 and I think that we should have jobs because whenever we ask for money our parents always say we should get a job anyway. So we should also have a job because some of us would just like to get our own money so we could spend it on ourselves and save it.

We 13 year-olds deserve jobs because most of us work our butts off at home for no reward whatsoever!!!!!
