Question: What are the laws concerning jobs for 13-year olds?

Answer: The Fair Labor Standards Act states that the minimum age for employment is 14 years old. A 14-year old that is a full-time student would be allowed to work in a retail establishment as long as the employer has obtained certifications from the Department of Labor. A business could be fined $10,000 for hiring someone under the age of 14. The age requirements for agricultural employment are slightly different.

I'm turning 13 very soon! I think 13 year olds should be able to work. We'd be able to get money for what we really want(parents aren't goin to get it!) I dont think that's fair.

I think 13 year olds should be able to work maybe not at big famous companies but secretaries or food places grocery store or something to get extra money i mean some people may be in debt and some teens want to help to get extra money so they can pay for things, help with college, car insurance, is it so hard to just let us we are always being lectured, if you want something you have to pay for it how are we suppose to do that when we can't even get jobs that are real instead of yard jobs seriously, we get a couple days of work and that's it we should at least be able to do stuff so think!!!!
